from the otherkin wikia since i've seen a post asking going around:

"Otherkin (sometimes called "otherkind) are people who identify in some nonphysical way as nonhuman or not fully human, more specifically beings who do not currently exist on earth (though it is often used as an umbrella term). This identity is often considered to be involuntary.

What you identify as is called a kintype. Various kintypes include but are not limited to elves, demons, fae, dragons, angels, and many others. Someone may explain their experiences in various ways including through reincarnation, walk-in events, brain wiring, an unconscious coping mechanism, and many more.

Otherkin are often referred to as 'Kin for short. A kintype being the 'kin identifies as. As stated above being otherkin is very personal and beliefs of cause and experience vary from one individual to another. Some may believe their soul is a mixture of more than one species (hybridkin) and others may have more than one kintype (polykin). The otherkin community is a very diverse community that has many different beliefs and opinions."

on fictionkin:

"'Fictionkin' (formerly called 'otakukin' or 'mediakin') are those who identify as something that is considered fictional, typically a fictional character(s) or species, though that character may not always be directly mentioned in the canon of their source material. (Ex. An OC, a background character, a noncanon character, or occasionally even a glitch.)

Multiverse Explanation Most fictionkin believe in the multiverse theory. They believe there are limitless parallel universes, which means there are ones where fictional characters are real. If this is true, then theoretically a character could live, die, and then be reborn in a different universe. This is a common explanation for most fictionkin's spirituality. The aforementioned would also explain memories or dΓ©jΓ  vu experienced while reading, watching, or listening to something that relates to the fictional characters.

The multiverse theory also explains why many people might identify as certain character. The characters could have existed in many different universes, therefore being reborn multiple different times into multiple different people. Some fictionkin however are made very uncomfortable by other people who are the same characters as them. Those who do not believe that a character existed in anymore than one universe, and when the character was reborn, they where the only one to become that character could also feel this way. Though this behavior and attitude is often discouraged in the fictionkin community.

Spiritual Explanations Spiritual explanations for being fictionkin are just as diverse as those for otherkin and therians. Arguably the most common belief is past lives and reincarnation, where one was their fictotype in another life. Though this is far from the only explanation, there are also misplaced or walk-in souls where the soul of a fictional entity wound up in a different or the wrong body, soul parts, where aspects of the soul are of a fictional entity, and soulbonding, where a fictional entity bonded with a host.

There are many, many different ways a fictionkin might identify spiritually as their fictotype. Some are more common, some are less common. Fictionkin and otherkin as whole is not a unified spiritual belief, and psychological explanations aside there are so many different spiritual beliefs.

Psychological Explanations There are various ways one might consider themselves to be psychological fictionkin. This includes imprinting, where one sees their kintype in a media and subconsciously starts to identify as them, Trauma or Mental Illness, where it affects the brain so as the individual starts to view themselves as a fictional character, and Brain Complexity, where the brain is just complex and does things like identify the self with a fictional character.

There is no one way someone might be fictionkin nor is there any unifying theory. Being fictionkin is a diverse experience and there is no solid proof one way or the other.

People who have chosen, of their own volition, to take on the identity of a fictional character usually use it for a coping mechanism of some kind. They are called copinglinkers, or C linkers, and have been the subject of much debate within the fictionkin community. They are often not considered to be fictionkin, though similar, with their own experiences and community."

dreamsick asked:

We'd get Miitopia but we're not sure we want to indulge in the $40 to get it right now... It looks really cute and fun though.

ooo fair enough... you could always get the demo in the meantime! it's short, but the content you do get out of it is really fun :>
